- Parley P. Pratt settled in Amherst December 1826, and he joined Signey Rigdon’s Campbellite congregation in 1829. Later both converted to the Church
- A church branch was organized in the township by September of 1831
- On 25 June 1832 at a conference held in Amherst, Joseph Smith was sustained as president of the high priesthood, to preside over the whole church, and Sidney Rigdon was sustained as president of the elders
- At the same conference Joseph received two revelations, which were later combined into Doctrine and Covenants Section 75
