Parley P. Pratt settled in Amherst December 1826, and he joined Signey Rigdon’s Campbellite congregation in 1829. Later both converted to the Church
A church branch was organized in the township by September of 1831
On 25 June 1832 at a conference held in Amherst, Joseph Smith was sustained as president of the high priesthood, to preside over the whole church, and Sidney Rigdon was sustained as president of the elders
At the same conference Joseph received two revelations, which were later combined into Doctrine and Covenants Section 75
