On 5 October 1833, Joseph Smith, Jr. and Sidney Rigdon left Kirtland with Freeman and Huldah Nickerson and headed for New York and Upper Canada to preach to members of the Nickerson family
On 12 October 1833 the group stopped at Nickerson’s home in Perrysburg, Cattaraugas County, New York, where Joseph received Doctrine and Covenants 100
Joseph had remarked in his journal the day before, “I feel very well in my mind. The Lord is with us, but have much anxiety about my family” (Source)
The first verse of Section 100 is reassurance about Joseph’s and Sidney’s families
The next day Joseph preached to a group at the Nickerson home
At their destination, in the Mount Pleasant area in Canada, Joseph and Sidney taught a “very large” congregation and baptized 14 people, including Freeman Nickerson’s two sons Moses Nickerson and Eleazer Nickerson
Joseph and Sidney returned from their mission to find their families well
