In May 1831 Leman Copley, a convert to the church, donated 759 acres of land in the area of Thompson for some saints from Colesville, New York, to settle on
Doctrine and Covenants Section 51 instructed Bishop Edward Partridge to institute the principle of consecration in Thompson
By the end of June 1831, Copley had revoked his offer for the saints to settle on the property, and they were directed to settle in Missouri
